About Us
Thurnscoe Regeneration is a community charity and our mission is all about including everyone and creating chances for everyone to have a voice and build a better future for our village.
We make positive things happen in Thurnscoe and help people feel more connected. From events and activities that bring people together, to looking after the Community Plaza and improving our green spaces and community facilities.
We are building on the work of Big Local Thurnscoe, a ten year programme that comes to an end in 2024. Big Local Thurnscoe created change for the better, and we set up as a charity in 2018 to carry on connecting people together and making our village an even better place to live.
As an independent charity we can apply for funding to support new projects in the village and also maintain projects that were created through Big Local Thurnscoe, including the Christmas lights and public artworks.
How we work
Our board is made up of people who live or work in Thurnscoe. We listen to you – our community – to try and understand what you’d like to see happen in the village. We help make projects happen in partnership with other groups and using external funding that we apply for.
Key Objectives
Our charitable objectives are:
- the advancement of education, training or retraining, particularly among unemployed people, and providing unemployed people with work experience
- the provision of housing for those who are in conditions of need and the improvement of housing in the public sector or in charitable ownership provided that such power shall not extend to relieving any local authorities or other bodies of a statutory duty to provide or improve housing
- the provision of recreational facilities for the public at large or those who by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances, have need of such facilities
- such other means as may from time to time be determined subject to the prior written consent of the charity commissioners for England and Wales
Our Partners
We work closely with lots of partner organisations in Thurnscoe including the Dearne Area Team, Thurnscoe Library and Station House.
Our community partners include Dearne Kids, Houghton Road Community Centre, St Helen’s Church and the Rainbow Centre.
We will continue to seek out funding for Thurnscoe and apply for grants that help us to create a better future.
In the past we have been awarded funding from:
Northern, South Yorkshire Wind Farm, Balmoral Tanks, Keepmoat Homes, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Arts Council England and Sport England, as well as more localised funding from the Dearne Area Team and Ward Alliance Funds.
Meet the Team
We currently have six trustees on our board. They all live or work in our community. Our trustees help us to set our direction and keep us on track with progress.
Here is a brief introduction to our current trustees:
Charlotte Williams
Even though I don’t live in Thurnscoe, I have worked at Station House since 2004. I love working here, it’s full of amazing people, many of who have complicated lives, but they just get their head down and get on with it.
When the idea of forming Thurnscoe Regeneration CIO was talked about at Big Local Thurnscoe it didn’t take much for me to say I would be a trustee. I am passionate about communities being empowered to help themselves and I know that Thurnscoe folk know what they want and have the skills to do it.
I am also a bit of a Charity nerd and hope that my experience of working for a local Charity gives me some of the skills and knowledge needed to run a successful charity.

Wendy Cain
My name is Wendy Ann Cain. I have lived in Thurnscoe for roughly twenty-five years.
I am committed to working in the community as a volunteer and in my new role as local councillor.
I am a member of the CIO as I feel a responsibility to represent the residents of the area.

Helen Owen
I have lived in Thurnscoe since 1982 and due to my husband’s connection with the Comprehensive School (when we had one here!) I got to know a lot of people in the village.
I joined Big Local several years ago and Thurnscoe Regeneration organisation feels a natural progression for me. I care about the village and its people and hope by belonging to this organisation, I can enable good things to happen here for the benefit of everyone.

Greg Kuczmaida
I have lived in Thurnscoe for the last 18 months after previously living in Wath upon Dearne and Swinton. My work with John Healey MP has opened up to me the amazing work Big Local Thurnscoe has carried out for the last 10 years and shown me the positive impact it has had on the community.
When I moved into Thurnscoe it made sense to get involved with the legacy organisation of Big Local Thurnscoe and become a member of Thurnscoe Regeneration CIO and be a part of future projects benefitting the community of Thurnscoe. I bring a wealth of local contacts that will help Thurnscoe Regeneration and am more than happy to volunteer at our planned events.

Clifford Seaton
I was born in Thurnscoe and have lived in the village all of my life. I worked for the NCB for most of my working life and I was a school governor at Clayton Lane School for a number of years.
I have joined the CIO as I have always taken an interest in the village and want to play an active part in its development.

Matthew Wake
I have lived in Thurnscoe since 2017 and I now work in a local school. I was keen to join the CIO as I wanted to contribute to the community that I live in.

Get Involved
We are always looking for people to get involved! If you are interested in being part of our board and would like to come to a meeting, give Alison a call on 07557 740330.
We plan a varied programme of events that take place across the village. Let us know if you have ideas or would like to get more involved as a volunteer.
